父亲有两个女儿，一个嫁了菜农，另一个嫁给了陶工。过了些日子，父亲来到菜农家里，问女儿情况如何，他们的生活过得怎么样。女儿说一切都很好，只是有一事须祈祷神明，那就是请求多下雨，好好地浇灌那些蔬菜。不久之后，他又来到陶工家里，问女儿过得如何。女儿说什么都不缺，只祷告一件事，请求天气晴朗，阳光充足，使陶器更快地干燥。父亲对她说道：“你望出太阳，你的妹妹却盼下雨，那么我又为谁祈求呢？”
这故事是说，那些同时想做两件截然不同的事的人，必然任何一件事都干不成。
fùqīn yǒu liǎnggè nǚér ， yīgè jià le càinóng ， lìng yīgè jiàgěi le táogōng 。 guò le xiē rìzi ， fùqīn láidào càinóng jiālǐ ， wèn nǚér qíngkuàng rúhé ， tāmen de shēnghuó guòdé zěnmeyàng 。 nǚér shuō yīqiè dū hěn hǎo ， zhǐshì yǒu yīshì xū qídǎo shénmíng ， nà jiùshì qǐngqiú duō xiàyǔ ， hǎohǎo dì jiāoguàn nàxiē shūcài 。 bùjiǔ zhīhòu ， tā yòu láidào táogōng jiālǐ ， wèn nǚér guòdé rúhé 。 nǚér shuō shénme dū bùquē ， zhǐ dǎogào yījiàn shì ， qǐngqiú tiānqìqínglǎng ， yángguāngchōngzú ， shǐ táoqì gēngkuài dì gānzào 。 fùqīn duì tā shuōdao ： “ nǐ wàng chū tàiyáng ， nǐ de mèimei què pàn xiàyǔ ， nàme wǒ yòu wéi shéi qíqiú ne ？ ”
zhè gùshi shì shuō ， nàxiē tóngshí xiǎng zuò liǎngjiàn jiéránbùtóng de shì de rén ， bìrán rènhé yījiàn shì dū gān bùchéng 。
The father had two daughters, one married a vegetable farmer and the other a potter. After a few days, the father came to the vegetable farmer's house and asked how his daughter was doing and how their life was going. The daughter said that everything was fine, but there was one thing to pray to the gods, and that was to ask for more rain to water those vegetables well. Not long after, he came to the potter's house again and asked how his daughter was doing. The daughter wanted everything, but only one thing to pray for, that the weather would be fine and sunny so that the pottery would dry faster. The father said to her, "You look out for the sun, but your sister longs for the rain, so for whom shall I pray?"
The story is that those who want to do two very different things at the same time are bound to be unable to do either.
El padre tenía dos hijas, una se casó con un horticultor y la otra con un alfarero. Después de unos días, el padre llegó a la casa del horticultor y preguntó cómo estaba su hija y cómo iba su vida. La historia es que aquellos que quieren hacer dos cosas muy diferentes al mismo tiempo están condenados a no poder hacer ninguna de las dos.

Der Vater hatte zwei Töchter, die eine heiratete einen Gemüsebauern und die andere einen Töpfer. Nach ein paar Tagen kam der Vater zum Haus des Gemüsebauern und fragte, wie es seiner Tochter gehe und wie ihr Leben laufe. Die Tochter sagte, dass alles in Ordnung sei, aber eines müsse man zu den Göttern beten, und das sei, um mehr Regen zu bitten, um das Gemüse gut zu gießen. Nicht lange danach kam er wieder zum Haus des Töpfers und fragte, wie es seiner Tochter gehe.
